It’s finally here, my personal favorite college football game of the year. It flies by, the clock is always running, and I love the spectacle and production behind it, especially the sweet uniforms. This weekend is the Army-Navy game. Let’s break it down so you can responsibly make the most out of this sweet DraftKings offer.
Now the Army Black Knights are fresh off of a win over my UMass Minutemen, which is not a flex for the Knights by any means. As far as military academies go, Army is averaging 29.4 points a game which is pretty impressive. Over 300 of their 385 yards a game are on the ground, no surprises there. Their defense has also been pretty good, only letting up 365 yards, with 193.5 of them being on the ground, which is honestly bad, especially when going up against another service academy. Overall Army has had a pretty ok season, but will their drippy uniforms be enough to win them their biggest game of the year?
Now Navy has had a better season than its record reflects. They’ve played good teams like Cincinnati and Notre Dame close, and last week took home a win over #20 UCF. They’re averaging around 240 yards a game on the ground and should be able to really take advantage of an Army defense that has struggled against the run. They also have a slightly better passing game and a more efficient quarterback to take the defense by surprise with a deep bomb once in a while. Their pass defense is lacking, but Army rarely passes, and their only allow 85.6 rush yards a game which should really come into play, shutting down the Army offense like you shutdown when a girl asks, “so what are we?”. This matchup is always a defensive battle, and personally, I think the Midshipmen have the edge.
