Week four of the NFL season brings us an AFC matchup between Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills playing Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Currently, the Ravens are the home underdog at +3 against the Super Bowl contender Bills, despite both teams boasting a 2-1 record through the first three weeks of the regular season. The Bills opened up strong, pounding the defending Super Bowl champion LA Rams 31-10 and coasting through their week two match-up against the Titans 41-7. The Ravens beat the Jets week one 24-9 (no surprises there), and in week three, they took home a victory against the Patriots after what may be a season ending injury for Mac Jones. The only loss for both squads has been to the out-of-nowhere-dangerous Miami Dolphins, with the Bills coming closer between the two, losing last second after not having enough time to get the spike off in the final moments of the fourth quarter.
On paper, this game would seem a lot closer than it actually is. With both teams having two wins under their belts and having their only loss to the Dolphins, it may seem like this is a close to even match-up. But much like my ability to maintain a meaningful conversation with a female, some things become a lot more difficult in the real world. The Ravens beat the Patriots and the Jets, two teams that will be lucky if they sniff an opportunity to make the playoffs, whereas the Bills held an offense that contains the best receiver in football to 10 points and stopped Derrick Henry from having any impact in a game that saw no-names on the field by the middle of the second half. Make no mistake: despite the loss to the Dolphins, the Bills are still one of the most dominant teams in football this year. Allen to Diggs is one of, if not the, most lethal QB/receiver combos in the NFL, and with guys like Isaiah McKenzie and Gabe Davis to support, Lamar Jackson doesn’t stand much of a chance. Mark Andrews is a beast, and Rashod Bateman and Duvernay have a lot of potential to become great. But the Ravens just aren’t on a comparable level to the Bills.
