If two years ago you told me I would be excited for a matchup between the Lions and the Jaguars I would’ve asked what you were drinking and if I could have some. But the coaching prowess of Dan Campbell and Doug Pederson and some good drafts have left Detroit and Jacksonville scrappy fun teams. Let’s break it down so you can (responsibly) make the most out of this sweet DraftKings offer.
This season it has been made obvious how bad of a coach Urban Meyer was. Pederson has really started to turn the culture around in J-Ville. Trevor Lawrence has shown a lot of improvement, and Travis Etienne proved to be a great addition. Their offense has been above average, hovering around 370 yards a game, with 130 of those being on the ground. They’ll also face less resistance than usual as the Lions have the second worst defense in the league allowing over 425 yards a game. Yikes. Jacksonville running backs should have a good time as 154 of those 425 yards have been through the ground game. The Lions also have a lot of questionable players, including three important cornerbacks and two key offensive linemen. That being said, they’re coming off of a big upset against the Ravens. Could this be a letdown game?
To be honest, I kind of think it is. The Lions have lost 5 of their 7 losses by a combined margin of 17 points, and this includes games against teams like the Bills, Eagles, and Dolphins. Their offense has been slightly better than the Jaguars, putting up around 3 more points a game. Detroit just had their 3 win streak barely snapped by arguably the best team in the league, and the Bills only won by 3. The Jags might be without two of their best weapons as Etienne, and Zay Jones is questionable, and that running back duo of Swift and Williams should wreak havoc on Jacksonville like a breakfast of coffee and nicotine wreaks havoc on your digestive tract. Gimme the Lions; I’m backing my guy Dan Campbell.
