The Spartans and the Wildcats. Two teams at 2-1 but against vastly different opponents. I won’t lie, I’m just as surprised as everyone else, but I genuinely think this is Michigan State’s game to lose. They have gone up against Gonzaga and Kentucky this year, losing by only one point to Gonzaga, and beating the fourth-ranked team by nine. Joey Hauser has been absolutely balling this year, averaging over 14 points a game with a 44% three-point shot and 42% from the field overall. Plus, their defense this season has been outstanding, holding Gonzaga to only 64 points which is 40 points less than the Zags first-game team score. It also doesn’t hurt that Michigan State’s starting guard, A.J. Hoggard is averaging almost eight dimes a game, with Mady Sissoko snagging basically eight boards a game.
Meanwhile, Nova has played three unranked teams this year and is somehow 2-1 with a loss to Temple. Eric Dixon and Caleb Daniels are trying their best to drag this team forward, but they’re not having the easiest time doing it. Eric Dixon has been forced to score 18 points per game, shooting over 51% and almost averaging two blocks, while Caleb Daniels has been leading the team in both rebounds and assists while being second in scoring to just Dixon. But there is only so far you can go with two elite players. Just ask the Lakers. Nova will always be a great team, but their offense is just not explosive enough to deal with this Michigan State defense.
