Ladies and Gentlemen, it is March, and everyone knows what that means. The greatest annual sports tournament is just around the corner, and competition is heating up. Now Arizona State has kind of slept on this season. Despite struggles in conference play, the Sun Devils are 20-9 and 4th in a solid PAC-12. Led by Desmond Cambridge Jr.’s 14 points per game, ASU has won 4 out of their last 5, including a thriller over top 10 ranked Arizona in a rivalry game. Other notable wins include a 25-point blowout against a ranked Michigan team and a close one against Creighton. Going into California and beating UCLA would be a very tough ask, but not out of the question for this Sun Devils team.
On the other side, the Bruins are ranked 4th in the nation for a reason. They’re top of the PAC-12 and boast an impressive record sitting at 25-4, with only two of those losses coming in-conference. Jaime Jaquez Jr. is an absolute beast, putting up 17 and 8 on a consistent basis while shooting almost 49%. Three other Bruins are averaging double figures, which has led to a great offense. They score more and give up less than the Sun Devils; in fact, their defensive rating is 5th compared to ASU’s 41st, and offensively they’re 50th compared to the Sun Devils all the way down in 254th. While ASU has a shot at coming in and stealing this game, I’m riding with UCLA as the better team. They should be able to defend their home turf and secure the win.
