It is finally time for another installment in the greatest rivalry in all of professional sports. The .500 Red Sox will travel to New York to take on the 36-26 Yankees in an AL East matchup that should prove to be both important and extremely entertaining. Let’s break it down.

The Yankees have been solid this season. Aaron Judge is hitting over .290 and still slugging away, as he has 19 home runs at the time of writing this blog. Offensively the Yanks are alright averaging 4.7 runs a game which puts them at 9th in the MLB, but they’re 24th in hits per game and only hitting .234 as a team which is 22nd in the league. Where they really shine in on the defensive side of the ball. They only let up 4 runs a game which is tied for sixth, and they’re first in the entire MLB in hits allowed a game in 7.5. The pitching has been great, with the second overall batting average allowed and sixth in ERA as well as WHIP. Gerrit Cole is still an absolute stud with barely more than a 2.80 ERA, and pitchers like Domingo German and Michael King have really stepped up and are pitching well. It seems like they match up well against a Red Sox team that has been recently struggling, will the poor air quality coming from the Canadian forest fires have any effect?

Now the Red Sox. It really seems like this team’s ownership is scared to spend money, so they’re stuck playing a form of moneyball. Great movie by the way, if you haven’t seen it watch it ASAP. The Sox have had a pretty solid season on offense so far, as they are tied for fourth in the league averaging 5.1 runs a game on 9 hits and as a team are hitting over .260. These guys make contact a lot, especially with runners in scoring position. Now defense and pitching have been a real problem, as they allow almost 5 runs a game which makes them a bottom 8 defense. They’re pitching is also bottom 8 in the league, so it seems that poor pitching has been bailed out by electric hitting, a practice that does not lead to winning baseball in the long term. Despite some scary injury news surrounding Chris Sale, the Sox just got Arroyo back, and Adam Duvall who was hurt after playing in only 8 games should be back for this series. Before his injury he was hitting a massive .455 with 4 homeruns on 33 at bats. Call me crazy, but I think this gritty Sox team might just be able to pull off some upsets and win this series.

It’s the best rivalry in sports, so make sure to join FanDuel now & get up to $2,500 in bonus bets if your bet loses!
