One of the key NBA Christmas Day matchups will be the New York Knicks taking on the San Antonio Spurs, in what should be a highly entertaining matchup.
The New York Knicks made a plethora of blockbuster moves this offseason. And those moves are starting to pay dividends. After a pedestrian start to the season, they now sit in third place in the Eastern Conference standings behind the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers. The catalyst of their impressive 16-10 start has been their star big man Karl-Anthony Towns who they acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves this past summer. Towns is averaging 24.8 points, 13.9 rebounds, and is shooting a scorching 43.9% from beyond the arc this season. The Spurs will have their hands full trying to contain him.
Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama capped off an impressive 2023 season by winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. And after such an eye-opening debut season, fans were excited to see what the Spurs star had planned for his encore. So far the Spurs have been rather pedestrian. They have a record of 13-13 and sit in 11th place in the Western Conference right behind the Lakers. However, Wemby has continued to impress in his sophomore season he is averaging 23.6 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.
The Knicks come in as the favorites in this matchup as a heavy nine-point favorite. Oddsmakers have this one as a high-scoring affair with the over/under being marked at 226 points.
