The Cowboys look to build off of their best season in a decade as Mike Gundy continues to solidify his legacy as one of the best coaches in Big 12 history. It will never cease to amaze me that Texas thinks of itself as highly as they do when Oklahoma State is a much better program. But then again, Texas is like the ugly friend who doesn’t want her “bestie” to leave the bar with you. Last year, the Cowboys’ offense sat in the middle of the pack in the Big 12 on paper, but that’s kind of like having eleven beers at an Irish family reunion- they were still great; the Big 12 is just full of offense-a-holics. What made Oklahoma State special was their defense, a defense that led college football in sacks. This year’s defense might be even better.
The Cowboys’ defensive line is stacked. Collin Oliver led the team with 10.5 sacks, but the young end will have to share time with NFL-caliber talent Trace Ford back from a knee injury, and Tyler Lacy and Brock Martin are back after combining for 12.5 sacks. You take all this into account, then throw in transfer Xavier Benson, and one starts to realize that this team has playoff potential. With Spencer Sanders back at quarterback, I’m incredibly bullish on this Oklahoma State team. No disrespect to Central Michigan, a bowl-winning team last year and a staple in the MAC, but the Cowboys are going to eviscerate them. Vegas likes Oklahoma State by -22, and I agree. I’m hammering that like I’m Tim Allen on Home Improvement. Enjoy the game and don’t forget to claim your free $50 from PrizePicks!
