Kyler Murray Over 25 rushing yards at -124
They call him “little Kyler Murray”, don’t they folks? But we love him, we love little Kyler Murray. He may not be as explosive as he was in his first few years, but Murray’s dual threat ability is a defining factor of his MO. Week 1 typically means offenses are still shaking off the rust, which can lead to broken plays which leads to scramble opportunities for mobile QB’s. It doesn’t hurt either that the Cardinals are playing potentially the worst team in the NFL in the Saints.
Dolphins ML at -108
This line has moved all over the place the last few weeks. Contrary to what some might think, the Dolphins offense functions incredibly well when Tua is healthy. Hill and Waddle remain an elite duo, and Achane has emerged as one of the league’s better running backs. Even more important, the Dolphins defense is no longer a hollow shell. With Zach Sieler and Bradley Chubb up front and the return of Minkah Fitzpatrick in the secondary, they’re a much more complete unit. I don’t think Daniel Jones is as bad as everyone thinks he is, but he certainly is not very good either. I expect a disappointing first start from Jones with his new team, so I am taking a Dolphins team with a more established identity in week 1.
Nick Chubb under 11.5 rushing attempts at -115
Like a 45-year-old man, Chubb isn’t what he used to be in the past. Sure, Chubb was readily available in his early 20’s, and could put up elite numbers, but that was years ago. Sexual innuendos aside, Chubb is coming off of his third season on the IR in the last 4 seasons. He still has gas in the tank, but the Texans have also made it clear the backfield will be a committee, even with Joe Mixon out. Pierce is a solid veteran as well and the two together will share.
Dog of the week: Raiders +130 at New England
This Raider’s team has real potential to shake off the rust of their lackluster decade. Even though he is the oldest coach in the league, Pete Caroll can run any NFL team with competence. They also acquired Geno Smith from the Seahawks, ending the Raiders QB carousel. The name of the game for this Raiders team is weapons: Brock Bowers, Ashton Jeanty and Jakobi Myers are all players any team in the league would like on their rosters. The Patriots and new HC Mike Vrabel play old school ground and pound football, and if they fall behind I am not so sure the passing game will keep them in it despite Drake Maye’s promising rookie season. Give me the Raiders to win outright.
