Week 10 of the NFL kicks off with the renewal of a bitter rivalry as the Raiders travel to Denver to take on the Broncos.
The Broncos come into this game at 7-2, good enough to tie for the best record in football right now. The defense has played like it all year, they rank third in total defense only behind the Texans and the Browns. Denver pulled off an improbable win against the former of those teams last week, beating Houston 18-15 in a true defensive rock fight.
But hidden beneath that great record is a Broncos offense that still has a lot of gaps that other high powered teams could easily exploit. This team will only go as far as Bo Nix allows them to. At times, he has looked like the best QB from a class that promises to have pro bowlers (Drake Maye, Jayden Daniel’s, among others).
At other times, his rash division making and reliance on his mobile game has brought the whole team down. If Denver wants to win the AFC West for the first time in ten years, they will need their sophomore QB to play more consistently.
The Raiders are on the other end of the spectrum in the NFL right now. The hope in Vegas was that bringing in the former Seahawks combo of Geno Smith and Pete Caroll would elevate the Raiders past the low level of play they’ve shown off for years now, but if anything the former Oakland team has only gotten worse. They sit at just 2-6, and are 0-5 in their last 5.
The fundamental issue in Oakland is the same that haunts many other mediocre teams: they refuse to do a full rebuild. The Raiders hope that they can improve a bad roster when in reality they need to get younger and better. Look at what the Jets did at the trade deadline.
This creates a game that should be won handedly by Denver, short week and all other factors considered. Vegas agrees as they are marking the Broncos a 9.5 favorites. DraftKings has set the total at 42.5.
