OBJ Cut

Here’s the link to the blog that explains why this is happening, but if you’re too lazy to go read the whole thing, here’s the basic rundown:

Earlier this week Browns’ receiver Odell Beckham Jr.’s father, Odell Beckham Sr., put a video out on YouTube of all of the times his son was open this season and Baker Mayfield didn’t throw to him. He put it to the backing track of “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M., and it caused major issues in the Browns locker room.

After the release of the video, Odell was sent home from practice two days in a row this week, and reports came out this morning that the Browns were negotiating the terms of his release. According to an article from ESPN, Kevin Stefanski, the head coach of the Browns, told the team on Wednesday that OBJ would no longer be on the team.

Beckham still has two years left on his contract, but there is no guaranteed money left for him. Because the NFL’s trade deadline was Tuesday, the Browns can’t trade him until next season. Before the trade deadline, Beckham had been looking to be traded, and a few teams showed interest, with the Saints being at the top of that list. Clearly, all teams ended up deciding against it, but it will be interesting to see if Beckham ends up on another team this season despite the fact that he has now been proven as a locker room cancer (he can thank his dad for that).

The Browns play the Bengals this week in Cincinnati, but OBJ’s dad showed us all in a YouTube video that a lack of Odell won’t factor in all that much.
