Duke and UVA are both on their way to battle it out in the ACC Men’s Basketball Championship tonight. Both teams have experienced winning in the month of March, but what is going to make the difference? While Virginia ran an absolute track meet against Clemson, the clearly underestimated Duke squad struggled in a game that really could have gone either way until the end. The Duke game last night may have been a great watch, but what does this mean for the Blue Devils tonight?
If Duke starts out as slow as they did last night, UVA is going to take off and not give them a chance. I think UVA really has what it takes to get it done tonight. Virginia ended their regular season with a 98.1 adjusted defensive efficiency and was No. 1 in defensive steals rate (11.4 %). This is thanks to the defensive genius that is Tony Bennett. You better believe he’s gonna have his boys on point tonight. Another reason I love Virginia is that they returned all five starters from last year’s team. They have major threats from the perimeter and two solid options at center with Kadin Shedrick and Francisco Caffaro. Virginia is like an old woman: experienced and deep. The Hoos started the ACC tournament strong with a 65-59 win against the Tar Heels, and I think that’s going to continue against the Blue Devils. In their February matchup, Duke committed 22 turnovers and shot 44.9 percent. As you could imagine, Virginia won. Frankly, I can’t imagine tomorrow going any differently.
