The Detroit Red Wings right winger, Daniel Sprong, has been accused of assaulting former IndyCar driver, Zach Claman DeMelo, at a nightclub during the Detroit Grand Prix weekend. The alleged assault left DeMelo with broken teeth and a concussion. Like any good celebrity, DeMelo has taken to social media to post about the alleged assault. In DeMelo’s Instagram story, he wrote that Sprong “grabbed my neck and pinned me on the wall.” It wasn’t until after the two were separated that Sprong came back and sucker-punched him in the face. This was the shot that left him missing several teeth.

Sucker punching someone is definitely a dickhead move but I have to admit that chipping someone’s tooth with a punch is pretty impressive. It’s one thing to knock someone’s tooth out but to slice the thing in half is a completely different story. It’s still unclear what the two were even fighting about, but DeMelo should know better than to pick a fight with a hockey player. Hockey guys are just a different breed of tough. Especially when comparing them to guys who make left-hand turns for a living. Sprong might not be known as a fighter, but you have to expect that anyone willing to skate with some of the baddest dudes on the planet is going to know how to throw a punch.

After leaving the Seattle Kraken, Sprong will spend his first season with the Red Wings as he just signed a one-year $2 million contract. Sprong had one of his best seasons last year with 21 goals and 25 assists and will be looking to have a repeat season this year. Neither Sprong nor the Detroit Red Wings have commented on the allegations brought forth by DeMelo.

It seems like DeMelo will be pressing charges as he wrote that he couldn’t comment further for legal reasons. We obviously don’t have all the information but this entire situation kinda makes Zach DeMelo seem like a pussy. He admits they got into a fight and now wants to backtrack and press charges for assault just because his head wasn’t on a swivel. If you start a fight, you need to be prepared to finish it because if you don’t the other guy will. We are still very early on in the proceedings of this case and something tells me it will only get more dramatic.
