A famous Brazilian influencer was sent to the hospital in a wheelchair this past weekend for “unbearable pain.” After being looked at by a group of trained medical professionals, her diagnosis was absolutely shocking: farts.

Viih Tube, an Instagram influencer from Brazil who’s real name is Vitória De Felice Moraes, was attending the Rock in Rio Lisboa 2022 music festival in Portugal when she began to feel extreme discomfort in her abdomen. After being rushed to the hospital, doctors informed her the pain was caused due to unreleased gas that had built up.

As it turns out, Moraes had been purposefully holding in her farts as she was embarrassed to let them out in front of her boyfriend Eliezer. Although not serious, trapped gas can cause discomfort similar to gallbladder or chest pain.

Moraes notified her 23.4 million followers by posting an Instagram story of herself in a wheelchair that read “at the airport, I started to feel unbearable pain and I was even put in a wheelchair and it turned out to be gas.” Additionally, she tagged Brazilian singer Pocah who encountered the exact same problem earlier this March.

Pocah, who also ended up in the hospital since she was not on “farting terms” with her boyfriend (yes, those are her own words), shared advice back in March to all of her fans. She said, “Girls, don’t be ashamed to fart in front of your guy, because what’s really embarrassing is not letting your guy sleep because you’re in discomfort, going to hospital with your guy, and the diagnosis being trapped farts. From now on, I’m letting them rip, guys.”

While Moraes didn’t seem to take Pocah’s advice on the matter, doctors do urge people to release farts when necessary. After hearing of the incident, Dr. Faraz of the National Health Service advised the public of the consequences of holding in gas. “Gas forms naturally in your stomach as a waste product of digestion. It gets mixed with air that you swallow when you eat and drink,” he said. “If you hold in a fart you can cause yourself heartburn, bloating and pain. The gas could come out as a smelly burp and make your breath stink. Imagine doing a burp that smells like a fart.”

While that does sound cool, it probably tastes like shit.
