Travis Scott and Live Nation have been notified of a first lawsuit connected to the tragic opening to Astroworld 2021 that left eight dead and many other attendees injured.
Scott, as well as the organizers of the event, are currently attempting to navigate a PR disaster and lend support to those dealing with the events the unfolded the other evening. The first of what will likely be many lawsuits have already emerged against Scott, the organizers, and several other performers.
According to reports on TMZ, two lawsuits have been filed, including one aimed at Scott, Live Nation and fellow rapper, Drake. The suit is alleging negligence and causing the resulting tragedy. It also goes very close to claiming that Scott, Drake, and others had incited the crowd into a frenzied, riotous state.
Videos from the show continue to be released and are very disturbing.
Kristian Paredes is seeking $1 million in damages due to poor planning with crowd control and a lack of safety measures. According to Billboard, yet another lawsuit was filed on Saturday by concert attendee Manuel Souza naming Scott, Live Nation and organizer ScoreMore.
Souza said, in part, the result was because of “a motivation for profit at the expense of concertgoers’ health and safety” adding that Scott joined others in an “encouragement of violence.”
Attorney Steve Kherker also wrote with the filing, “Instead, they consciously ignored the extreme risks of harm to concertgoers, and, in some cases actively encouraged and fomented dangerous behaviors.”
One of the main aspects that is being focusing on is the decision of Scott (and others) to keep performing despite what they are claiming to be obvious issues within the crowd.
“Eventually, due to defendants’ active decision to let the show go on, the scene devolved into a complete melee, resulting in the needless, untimely death of at least 8 people and injuries to scores of others,” Souza alleged.
Scott and his fiancee Kylie Jenner have both shared he was unaware of what was happening while he was on stage. Scott has released two statements on the incident, including an emotional video apology.
As of this publishing there have been no criminal charges filed.
