Yesterday, a 15-year-old sophomore from Oxford High in Michigan, entered the school armed with a semiautomatic handgun and killed three students, injuring seven others as well as a teacher.
Those lost were Tate Myre, 16; Hana St. Juliana, 14, and Madisyn Baldwin, 17.
Myre was shot while trying to disarm the shooter. A hero.
He was also a promising football player who was recently on a recruiting trip to Toledo.
The Class of 2023 prospect was listed at 6-foot, nearly 200-pounds and was recently named first team all-region at both tight end and linebacker. He had a 3.9 GPA and had multiple opportunities waiting for him once he graduated.
Reports from the shooting indicate that it all unfolded in about five minutes — which had to have felt like five years — and police said the shooter was arrested after police stopped him coming down a hallways with a handgun that still was loaded.
The Detroit Free Press reports that Myre was being rushed to the hospital in a patrol car when he ultimately passed away.
The paper also reported that among those injured was a 47-year-old teacher with a grazing bullet wound had already been discharged from the hospital, while the children ages 14 through 17 years old were in conditions ranging from stable to critical, with injuries to extremities, chests, necks and heads. Other students were hurt in the evacuation, but had non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff said.
