Isaiah Lee, the man who attacked Dave Chappelle during the Hollywood Bowl (and who is also facing attempted murder charges for a SEPARATE incident), spoke out from jail about why he decided to go after the greatest standup comedian of all time.
“I identify as bisexual … and I wanted him to know what he said was triggering. I wanted him to know that next time, he should consider first running his material by people it could affect,” said Lee, who is now facing multiple misdemeanor charges as well as a felony.
Boo. Friggin’. Hoo.
I don’t know how many times it needs to be said: if you are offended by a comedian’s jokes, just don’t go out and watch and listen to their content. It’s a fascinatingly simple resolution to a problem that, well, shouldn’t be a problem at all.
According to the post, what really set Lee off was a joke made by a DIFFERENT comedian about pedophilia, which hit close to home for Lee who says he was molested as a child, but Lee decided to go after Chappelle instead. Lee said, “I told him my mother and grandmother, who fought for [Chapelle’s] civil rights to be able to speak, would be upset at the things he said.”
Ah yes, the correct response to being offended by someone’s words: attack them! That really makes a ton of sense.
Chappelle, of course, had an unbelievably amazing line to Lee afterwards:
“Now your story will die with you, son.”
