Smoking weed is pretty self-explanatory, really. Just break it up and toss it in a bong or roll it up on some paper. You don't need to read the instructions for that! But how about grinding your bud when there isn't a grinder around? Maybe you lost yours, forgot to pack it for your vacation, or maybe you're just not into how some grinders cut your bud up way too finely. There are alternatives. It's pretty simple to grind weed without a grinder, so read on and learn how to do it.
Grinding Weed on a Cutting Board with a Knife
Using a cutting board and knife to grind weed. It's easy enough to figure out, but there are some things you should keep in mind. Be sure to have a sharp knife; sticky buds may adhere to the blade, and that would be the point of defeat. Just put the buds on the cutting board and start cutting them up with the blade into small pieces. Provided you do it right, you should have your weed ground up in no time! Just be wary while doing it since knives do tend to be a little dangerous, so handle with care. Be sure to clean up any mess afterwards too!
Crush Weed with a Pill Bottle and Coin
This pill bottle and coin method is classic, and it does work. Take an empty pill bottle, adding as much bud in as you would like. Clean a penny or a dime off with some hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, or any other cleaner of your choice. Add this into the container and screw the top of the bottle on tightly, then shake away—no matter how sticky it may be, this method grinds it up without any problems!
Using scissors and a shot glass to grind weed.
If you are home, just having a pair of scissors will do, and the scissors and shot glass method works perfectly in breaking up your buds. You simply need to put your bud in the shot glass and start snipping away. There's variance in a shot glass—this is the perfect instrument for the task, but if one's not on hand, any small cup or other such item will suffice just the same. It's not so easy as if one were at a concert or festival, but this technique will still get the job done!
Coffee Grinder
Part IV of how to grind weed without a grinder incorporates the coffee grinder. This way is kinda a real pain to clean up after, but it's really kind of the most similar if you don't already have a weeding grinder. If you're really grinding quantities larger than regular, this method is probably the best way to go about it.
Grind It
Now, if anybody's going for extra fine marijuana powder, well, this might be a little unconventional. Cleaning out the blender is a real pain, and it definitely does not represent the most effective way to grind your bud. However, if you are bent on getting finely ground weed, this method could just do the trick.
Pestle and Mortar
Grinding the weed in a pestle and mortar is quite effective—although perhaps it does feel like stepping back into another age. Indeed, these things were invented to grind herbs. Stick your bud into the mortar—that's the bowl-like receptacle—and start breaking it up with the pestle.
This is a rather ancient tool; thus we would recommend slightly drying your buds before using this method, as it can get quite fiddly to grind wet and sticky weed with such an archaic tool. But if done properly, grinding up your herb with a pestle and mortar can be quite satisfying.
Cheese Grater Method
Relax, it's never going to happen, but if it ever gets to the point, and you are out of options, don't worry, we will not judge. Grate this big, beautiful bud like parmesan cheese. Of course, do remember to wash before using your shredded marijuana in your grandmother's famous pasta fagioli recipe. Desperate times call for desperate measures!
Using a Homemade Weed Grinder
Making your own grinder from scratch might seem like an unconventional and possibly counterproductive method of breaking up buds, but if you have the necessary items at home it's actually quite easy and effective. All you need is a tobacco tin can, along with some nails or thumbtacks.
Make sure to pierce the nails into both sides of the tin - ensuring that they don't overlap each other so that you're able to close it afterwards - then add your cannabis inside before twisting away. While this method won't give you a knife catcher at the bottom like a regular grinder would, it should still effectively grind up your weed.
Break It Up With Your Hands, Dingus
This method is especially perfect if you're running low on time or energy to grind up enough weed for a joint that's due in five minutes. Just make sure to wash your hands before and after - nobody needs sticky fingers.
