Wallpapering is a simple task and almost everyone can handle it. First of all, the task is to prepare the walls. You should remove the old wallpaper. To do this, they are moistened with a soap solution and removed with a spatula. Instead of a soap solution, special means are also used, they are more effective than a simple solution. If the walls are painted instead of wallpaper, then you need to remove the paint layer. This can be done with a spatula, or with a chisel, in extreme cases, to beat off with a hammer. Old whitewash and water-based paint can be wiped off with a rag soaked in hot water. Various irregularities, cracks, defects of the wall must be pre-plastered.
The number of wallpapers is calculated as follows. We take the ceiling height, as a rule, it is 2.2–2.8 meters. Standard rolls have 10 meters of length and 0.5 meters of width. From such a roll, 3 strips are obtained. We count the number of strips, divide by 3, round up to more and get the right number of rolls.
We proceed to the pasting process. Roll out the wallpaper with the pattern up. We measure the first strip with a margin of 10-15 cm and cut it off. We select the drawing (if it matters) on the second strip and cut the desired length, and so on. In case of uneven ceilings, it is recommended to measure the length of each strip. After that, turn the wallpaper upside down and apply glue to the wallpaper.
It is necessary to use glue for the type of wallpaper that you are gluing. Paste is applied to the wallpaper in an even layer, without missing empty spaces. The edges are carefully smeared. We wait 5-10 minutes until the glue is soaked. Before pasting, we also smear the walls. When using paper wallpaper, the walls do not need to be smeared, and for non-woven wallpaper, only the wall is smeared.
Wallpaper begins to be glued from the door or window and first of all, full strips are pasted over.
We glue the first strip and align it to the construction level. The following layers are glued to each other end-to-end, in compliance with the pattern (if available). When pasting the wallpaper, it is carefully smoothed with a plastic spatula, a special brush or a simple clean cloth from top to bottom and from the middle to the edges. We make sure that there are no air bubbles under the wallpaper, not forgetting to control the edges. Excess wallpaper is cut off with a construction knife or scissors before it dries.
When pasting switches and sockets, they should be de-energized. To simplify the process, you can cut strips 2-3 cm wide and paste them over the edges of sockets, switches, corners, etc. The next day after gluing, check the edges and joints for peeling and glue them in case of detection.
At the end of the work, it is necessary to avoid drafts in the papered room for 1-2 days. This will ensure good bonding.
