US sports betting giant to launch its platform this month

FanDuel is set to launch its betting site in the Canadian province of Ontario this month. Subject to approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and iGaming Ontario, the sports betting giant will also introduce its iCasino platform in the region.

The news comes after AGCO announced that both online gaming and betting on individual events will be available in Canada's most populous province on April 4.

The FanDuel gaming offering will be presented as a standalone app that will allow players to bet on games in real time and for real money. The platform will launch with more than 250 titles in the categories of live dealer, random number generation and slot machines.

"We are very excited to open our Canadian office and introduce FanDuel's world-class sportsbook and casino to Canada's passionate sports fans," said FanDuel Group CEO Amy Howe.

"This is an important moment for the industry and we look forward to providing Canadians with an exciting and responsible sports experience through which they can build their careers."

By launching the new bookmaker on IGT's PlaySports platform, FanDuel is focusing on a responsible approach to gaming. The company will use its Play Well approach to ensure that all measures are taken to prevent gambling problems.

FanDuel is not alone in launching its offering this month: a number of well-known operators are set to enter the market. These include PointsBet, BetMGM Ontario, Unibet, Rush Street Interactive's BetRivers brand, Coolbet, LottoGo, Fitzdares, Bet365, LeoVegas, World Series of Poker, Rivalry, Royal Panda, theScore and 888.
