Jimmy Butler is my GOAT. I’m biased because he gave the Sixers their best second round exit of recent memory, but he truly provides so much more than that. He has carried two different Miami teams to the NBA finals. Everyone knows that. In my opinion, he’s the best player the NBA has ever seen because of his antics off the court. Check his recent media day look if you don’t believe me.
Instead of cleaning up like most players do when they have their official pictures taken, Jimmy Butler decided to dress like he had pit tickets to a My Chemical Romance show. It’s also the second year in a row that he has shown up to picture day with a ridiculous haircut. No player in the league’s extensive history has had a better combination of talent and general shenanigans than Jimmy Buckets.
Last year, the league hated Jimmy Butler’s Jar-Jar Binks-inspired dreadlocks. They used an NBA2k graphic last year before games because they despised using his picture. They know that he’s messing with them, and they have limited options to get around it.
I hope the league decides to lean into Butler’s antics this season. He has become one of the league’s biggest stars, but more importantly, their funniest player. The NBA would be foolish not to market him as such.
People who are uneducated about the history of Butler’s antics online seemed to think this was a bad sign for Jimmy. The Heat just blew a huge lead in the Damian Lillard sweepstakes, but Jimmy seems unaffected. As a matter of fact, him having fun with media day should be all the proof that Butler is ready to carry the Heat all the way to a playoff matchup to a much better team. It looks like Milwaukee this year.
