I’ve learned over the course of my sports watching career that I have somewhat of an obsession for athletes with interesting names. They stand out to me when I’m watching a game, and a new one I haven’t heard almost always gives me a chuckle. Here are my favorite names in the NFL.
Puka Nacua
I can’t believe I didn’t draft this guy in fantasy on name alone. While likely being the shortest name on the list, it’s the most fun to say. This list isn’t ranked, but Puka Nacua is the best name in the league.
Chigoziem Okonkwo
I love it when announcers say Chigoziem Okonkwo. It’s got a bunch of syllables, and just sounds great.
Halapoulivaati Vaitai
A Super Bowl Champion for the Eagles. A TCU legend. This guy has one of the best names of all time, especially because his brothers are named Kevin and William.
Talanoa Hufanga
Talanoa goes pretty hard for a first name. I think Talanoa Beavers might be a good name for my first-born child one day. Also, Hufanga has some funk to it, and looks great on the back of a jersey.
Tuli Tiupuluto
His brother Marlon plays for the Eagles, if not for Tuli coming in and edging him out with the more well-rounded name.
Olamide Zaccheaus
Go Birds. This guy’s name is really fun to say. I hope he catches a ton of passes this year because of it.
Equanimeous St. Brown
Another guy who just beat his brother with a cooler first name, but a much tighter race. Amon-Ra is a very cool name, but Equanimeous is just a wild collection of sounds. Had to be included.
Tevita Tuliʻakiʻono Tuipulotu Mosese Vaʻhae Fehoko Faletau Vea
Also known as Vita Vea for short.
