Biggest Releases Coming This Summer

Obi-Wan Kenobi – May 27th

Playing on Disney+, this Star Wars series will follow the titular Obi-Wan in the time after losing Anakin to the Dark Side after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Ewan McGregor, who played Kenobi in the prequel movies, will return to his role for the series.

Top Gun: Maverick – May 27th

Thirty-six years after the release of Top Gun, which starred Tom Cruise as a hot-headed Navy pilot, Cruise will return to his role of Maverick in the 2022 continuation. Taking the thirty-six year gap into the story of the films, Top Gun: Maverick will see Miles Teller join the movie as the son of Goose from the original film.

Stranger Things: Season 4, Volume 1 – May 27th

The long awaited return of the Netflix original series, Stranger Things, is coming this Friday. Similar to some of Netflix’s other originals (Moneyheist, Ozark, etc.) the final season of the show will be broken down into two parts, with the first part consisting of seven episodes. Volume II will debut on July 1st, where we’ll finally see an end to the story of the Hawkins characters.

Crimes of the Future – June 2nd

From the acclaimed horror director David Cronenberg (The Fly, eXistenZ) Crimes of the Future will be a sci-fi/horror/thriller starring Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, and Kristen Stewart. The movie will center around humans in a new, synthetic environment in which there are mutations and transformations. Freaky stuff.

Lightyear – June 22nd

Taking one of the most famous characters for the beloved Toy Story series, Lightyear will follow the space adventures of Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Chris Evans. Many Pixar movie director Angus McLane helms the film, with Keke Palmer, Josh Brolin, and Taika Waititi also lending their voices to the movie.

Elvis – June 24th

A biopic long deserved about the King. Austin Butler will play Elvis (and he’ll be singing for real, too), as Tom Hanks will be dressed in a fat suit will be in the ensemble cast. With a soundtrack full of Elvis songs and getting to see some great dancing, this is going to be an exciting one.

Thor: Love and Thunder – July 8th

Taika Waititi comes back to direct this MCU entry after the success of Thor: Ragnarok, as Natalie Portman returns to her role of Jane and Fat Thor is a thing of the past.

The Gray Man – July 15th

Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas will star in this CIA thriller about an agent who uncovers government secrets and fights a former colleague.

Nope – July 22nd

Jordan Peele’s third time directing (Get Out, Us) looks to be just as scary and weird as his other two, but just like his other films, he hasn’t given us much to go on plot-wise. It’s best that way.

Bullet Train – July 29th

Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock starring in an assassin thriller that takes place on a train. Do you need more?
