As we all know, straight white men are the fvcking worst. At least if you spend any time on Twitter, or read mainstream outlets, you know that. If you are a reasonable person then you may have a different take.
Well, the fine folks at Deadspin — you know, the people that called Sage Steele “the Black Candace Owens” — found another opportunity to get race incorrect. This time it was when it warned NFL teams not to make Mike McDaniel, the San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator, the next hot item in the coaching carousel because he’s a white guy.
Except he is not.
“Please stop and think before you inadvertently dub another young, white guy as the next hot NFL coaching prospect,” Deadspin’s subheading read.
Pro tip: if you are going to be in the race-baiting game, it is important to get the skin colors of the subjects right. Deadspin skipped that step, again. McDaniel is biracial, not a dangerous creature known as a “white man.”
Now, to be fair, Deadspin did correct its error.
With the most hilarious editor’s note, maybe ever.
We learned after the publication of this article that 49ers OC Mike McDaniel, whom we describe as a “white guy,” is in fact biracial. The article’s original text remains below. We regret the error.
Their take was: we got the premise of the article entirely wrong, but keep reading anyways.
CoolCoolCool.
It is tough when the demand for racism exceeds the supply. Good thing there are folks at Deadspin to keep stirring the drink. Even if it is just melted ice at this point.
