Former UCF Knight and Los Angeles Rams running back OJ Anderson, Jr. was shot and killed by his father, Otis Anderson, who also turned the gun on his mother, Denise, wounding the woman before being taken into custody.

According to an initial report from Ashley Harding from News 4 in Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. near the Forest Trails area by I-295 and Dunn Avenue.

A court hearing will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. Current information from Twitter says that the elder Anderson, aged 52, will not be eligible for bond.

Social media descriptions for both charges read that he is being charged for “Murder / Dangerous act evincing a depraved mind w/o premed,” which, apparently, means that authorities do not believe that either murder was premeditated.

Investigators said the situation began as a domestic incident and do not believe that anyone else was involved. A second man was detained at the scene without incident, however, he is being interviewed by detectives.

Otis Lee Anderson Sr., was arrested at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, and charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

This is NOT the former New York Giants running back, Ottis Anderson.

“He brought light to the campus,” University Christian Head of School Heath Nivens told First Coast News on Tuesday. “He always had a smile. He was a great student on and off the field.”

In four seasons with the Knights, Anderson ran for 2,182 yards, caught for 1,025 and scored 26 touchdowns. He joined the Los Angeles Rams practice squad at the start of the season, but was cut on September 20.
