Bills Mafia gets a lot of attention for their tailgates, passionate return to the stadium, and travel prowess to cheer their team.
Well, that is all topped by their spirit of giving.
It started about 10 months ago with Bills fans donating $17 (Allen’s number) to the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital. Well, the hospital was overwhelmed with support as over 27,000 donations from fans. The contributions — which topped the $1M mark — were used to open the ‘Patricia Allen Pediatric Recovery Wing’.
Allen stopped by to check it out:
“It’s such a surreal moment,” Allen said, “I’m so grateful to have this honor, to have my grandmother immortalize like this.”
“I’m so indebted to this great community and the city of Buffalo. We can’t thank you guys enough for allowing us to be a part of this.”
The new wing also includes a “Bills Fans Fun Zone,” a playroom dedicated to the fans who donated.
The Mafia might be all about destroying folding tables and burying beers, but they have big hearts. The football gods have taken notice and given Allen talents beyond those of other AFC East teams, and blessed his huge arm for a franchise that was desperate for a savior. They also rode Tom Brady out of the division and slapped the Dolphins with terrible coaching and the Jets with… being the Jets.
Good on ya, Bills Mafia.
