During our TFM trip to Nashville, I found myself off broadway and surrounded by a more local Nashville scene than I’m used to. There, I was chatting it up with a few of the Nashville natives and was told that “It’s nice to meet a tourist that isn’t a WOO Girl.” I took it as a compliment but I still didn’t know what it meant….What is a “WOO Girl”?

Well turns out, it’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s a word to describe the flocks of ladies who come to Nashville to celebrate any and all occasions. Whether it’s a bachelorette, a 21st, or even a newly divorced crew looking to rebound, there will be a “WOO” screeched out from at least one of these women every five minutes.

As a spectator of these hooting and hollering women, I caught myself rolling my eyes and thinking… I could never be like them. Unlike Pop Smoke, I do not “fuck with the WOO.”

But as it turns out, I’m a walking talking hypocrite. I was one of them…just a year ago.

Somehow I forgot that me and twenty of my closest friends had all gone down to Nashville to celebrate my best friend’s 21st birthday. Looking back, ALL WE DID WAS WOO. WE WERE THE WOO GIRLS!

We were a WOO Girl cliche, from the party bus to the song requests to local artists that are just trying to pay rent…we were a Nashville resident’s biggest nightmare. At the time, you don’t notice you’re even doing it. It seems as if everyone is just an extra on the set of your WOO Girl soirée.

I’ve seen both sides of the WOO Girl spectrum, and all I have to say is…if you can’t beat em’ join em’.
