The Crow has long been a cult classic that is (in my opinion) more hype than substance. The movie concept is pretty okay. Its acting was just okay. Really, the whole thing just feels like it would be long forgotten if Brandon Lee hadn’t died. But, whatever…
If you don’t know the backstory and just clicked in to see Mamoa, The Crow was a comic book adaptation that details the story of a man and his fiancée that are killed by gang. But, Eric (Mamoa) is resurrected by a crow and goes on to avenge their death.
Jason Mamoa was signed on to bring the character back to life (see what I did there) in 2018 before the project was shut down. Now, there is 0:18 of the test footage that has seen the light of day.
To the tape:
So, not too much to go on other than it is Jason Mamoa in The Crow makeup, and no shirt.
When the casting was first announced and then shut down, Mamoa took to IG to make his statement about it:
“I’ve waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O’Barr sorry to let you down I won’t on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can’t play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I’m ready when it’s right. Love u Corin aloha j”
Will The Crow ever actually get back off the ground? Who knows.
An actor with the cache of Mamoa being behind and seemingly, personally invested and interested in the role it certainly could.
Will I go see it? No. Hard pass.
