It was only a month ago when I wrote a blog remembering the great app. Then boom, the app is back. So if you’re still in college and don’t remember the app, here’s a little breakdown of what the app is. It allowed people to create and view discussion threads within a 5-mile radius. What made it great was that you could talk shit, talk about parties, and whatever random shit was happening at your campus. Only the people on your campus could see the post, and if you wanted to be a comedian on the site, you could do that as well, which many people did. With it back, let’s really dive into what the app was—Cyberbullying and talking shit about people. Now you might think cyberbullying is bad, but from what I’ve seen on Tik Tok, bullying needs to be brought back.

You’re scrolling through the app and see a thread discussing how BLANK girl from Kappa Kappa Gamma got Eiffel Towered last night and how BLANK in Sigma Chi is giving his fraternity brothers blowjobs. How BLANK got gang banged the other night while her boyfriend was all alone in their dorm. How BLANK has been fucking girls from Chi Omega and his girlfriend who goes to BLANK university has no idea.

The drama and shit show this would create was horrendous if your name was tossed on the app. There would be full-on fistfights and screaming matches. You would need to transfer to get away from the shit show that threads created. If your name wasn’t on the app, it was high intense drama injected straight into your veins. You could read for hours about cheating scandals sometimes, it was people you didn’t know, or it could be about your roommate, which would cause hours of drama, mostly with your roommate screaming that it wasn’t true. It didn’t matter once your name was on the app; you were done.

Sometimes this drama would follow to your workplace, where people were tossing out allegations and putting livelihoods at risk. There was no care in the world once you were hidden with the privacy of anonymity. Who cares if you told everybody within a 5-mile radius that you caught your co-worker bent over a desk by your boss who has a wife and 3 children at home.

Maybe we have learned what the internet can do to your mental state? To ignore the trolls and keep living your normal life. Regardless, if Yik Yak is truly back, there will be some good ole fashioned drama happening.
