Alexa, Talk Like Great Grandpa Please

Every day our society strays further from God and closer to a Black Mirror episode. Personally, I blame Zuck, Gates, Musk, and Bezos.

Speaking of Bezos, the other day at an Amazon conference in Las Vegas the company announced that it is working on technology that would allow the Alexa product to mimic the voice of people with less than a minute of provided audio.

Yeah, it could be used in a nice way to remember loved ones who have passed away, but here’s a quote that’s creepy as fvck.

The senior vice president and scientist for Alexa, Rohit Prasad, said that Amazon wanted to build greater consumer trust with the Alexa product and give her more “human attributes of empathy and affect”.

They want to make the robot more human so the actual humans trust the robot more. Am I the only one who thinks this whole idea is a little too Ex Machina?

Don’t get me wrong, I have loved ones whose voices I would love to hear again, but hearing that the company that basically runs the economic world wants us to trust their AI more kind of creeps me out.

Couple this with the news that came out about Google’s sentient AI I think we might be moving a little too fast.
