I’m so mad I missed out on this. Yesterday some sneaky Doordash customers discovered a glitch where they could get stuff for free through the app.
A bunch of social media posts went viral as customers boasted about getting items such as tequila, condoms, and other food items for free. One user scored thousands of dollars worth of liquor, taking to Twitter to share his plunder.
While some people went crazy buying as much as possible, others stood by and watched thinking that Doordash would come and try to collect the money eventually. Doordash issued a statement saying they were canceling the “fraudulent orders”.
Essentially, the glitch made it so customers could check out without Doordash authorizing their form of payment, allowing fraud. They did their best to cancel orders, but some slipped through the cracks. Doordash said, “We’re actively canceling fraudulent orders, and are in touch with merchants impacted to ensure they are compensated for any unauthorized orders they may have received”.
Glad to hear the stores will not be screwed over by another company’s mistake. I wonder if they will succeed in having people actually pay for their “free” stuff. This is absolutely going to be a court case in a few months.
