Najee Harris was a standout running back at Alabama. He is emerging as a standout running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
What he is not is some glowup story to be used as inspiration. He isn’t even trying to hear any sort of fake bullshit about it.
Steve Levy tried on the Monday Night Football broadcast, and Harris quickly smacked it right down.
Here is Levy:
“Even when he got to Alabama on a full ride, got the fancy dorm room, he spent the first few months in Alabama sleeping on the floor,” Levy said of Harris. “He said he’s just more comfortable, more used to that.”
The fact is that Harris did spend time in a homeless shelter in middle school in Northern California. The fact is that he did not get so comfy sleeping on the floor that he would choose to do it…
Here is Harris:
“Bra I ain’t sleep on no dam floor in college,” Harris tweeted. “I slept on my bed.”
He followed it up with another tweet, “Y’all mess up my name and y’all say that stuff smh bet.”
Let’s go to the tape:
Let’s give Levy some benefit of the doubt (I guess) since this story kinda did happen once…
… and it was with an Alabama running back…
Maybe he thinks all … umm, Alabama running backs… look the same?
Bleacher Report reported the following in 2018 about Josh Jacobs:
“When he arrived at Alabama, Josh Jacobs spent his first few months sleeping on the floor in his dorm room. Not because he didn’t have a bed. But because after years of sleeping on couches, on motel floors and in the back seat of his father’s maroon Chevy Suburban, he was more comfortable there.”
Harris has also spent time and money to renovate the facility that he used to live in.
ESPN actually did a great story on it. You can read it here — maybe Steve Levy should have read it, too!
