Playoff Hockey: Violent On and Off the Ice

Tensions were running high last night following a Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Two fans, one of each team, got into a verbal argument when seemingly out of nowhere the Rangers fan wound up and punched the Lightening fan square on the jaw, knocking him out cold.

The assailant then tried to run away, was stopped by a witness, and then allegedly punched the witness too.

Police arrived on the scene and arrested the guy, 29-year-old James Anastasio, and charged him with multiple charges of assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment.

The other fan who got punched woke up a few minutes later and seemed to be doing alright.

Too bad James got banned from the Mecca because with a left hook like that maybe someday he could’ve been fighting there for money.

I understand getting fired up about sports and angry at other fans, but you cant be the one to let it get physical, or legally, you’re screwed. In my opinion though, those laws should not apply to Philly fans, besides the ones I work for/with, yall are great.

Tampa Bay has now taken a series lead 3 games to 2, winning three straight. The winner of this series goes on to play the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final.
