That headline seems like a rhetorical statement… but, it isn’t. Please… someone, jump into the comments and explain this stupidity to me.
Scream dropped its first trailer and, honestly, I think it may be good. But, this is fvcking October. This is the month that Halloween happens. This it the month of Huluween. It is PeacOctober. Everyone is in on spooky szn. Everyone expect for the assholes that are releasing Scream IN JANUARY.
Here is the trailer:
It looks like it is dripping in nostalgia and for Scream fans — like me — so, that is nice!
The OG cast is coming back: Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, and David Arquette as Dewey Riley. Okay, I’m in.
The trailer even opens with a repeat of the first film, as a young girl (played by Jenna Ortega instead of Drew Berrymore) answers a call from Ghostface, who asks her, “Would you like to play a game, Tara?”
When she makes the classic mistake of opening her front door, the villain slashes her stomach, of course. Though she continues to try to lock all of her doors, the doors keep automatically opening from an app — which is nice since they sorta lamed it up with a landline — before Ghostface grabs her from behind.
The trailer then cuts to Dewey calling Sidney, and saying, “It’s happening, three attacks so far. Do you have a gun?”
“I’m Sidney Prescott,” Campbell replies. “Of course I have a gun.” (Cheap heat! I’m here for it.)
The original film dropped in 1996 — which conveniently sets this up as as a 25th anniversary. However, the stars are saying that this is the start of a new franchise, not simply a continuation of a story.
“This is the fifth one, it’s not Scream 5, though. This is Scream. These directors, I mean God, the directors [Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett] are just incredible,” Cox said on The Drew Barrymore Show earlier this year.
“It’s a new franchise. It’s hip, it’s scary, it’s just a new Scream. It’s not a reboot, it’s not a remake, it’s just a brand new launch. I think it’s gonna be fantastic.”
I hope it is fantastic. I liked the Scream franchise. I like the concept of tying back as well as pushing the story forward.
I still don’t have a good reason for why it is releasing in January. It makes no sense.
Someone, anyone, please explain it to me.
