During an episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight this past Monday, it was announced that Tiger Woods turned down a $700-800 million contract in an epic middle finger to the LIV Golf league. Being the face of the PGA tour, Tiger’s decision to turn down this obscenely large contract has kept LIV from completely monopolizing the professional golf industry. Due to LIV Golf being backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the recent move of top golfers such as Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka to LIV has sparked heated controversy throughout the world of golf. Although LIV itself claims that the PGA has denied professional golfers the freedom to choose between leagues, the PGA tour and its supporters show no sign of making acquaintance with the newfound tour.
Politics aside, how badass of a move is this for Tiger? I mean, a near billion dollar offer to play golf, and he’s nowhere near his prime? We haven’t had an American hero on this scale since Martin Luther King Jr. Sure, Tiger’s had his fair share of personal issues in the past, but this choice to stick with the PGA tour illustrates all you really need to understand about his character. Who knows how many years Tiger has left in the tank, but the golf community will undoubtedly remember his career post-accident not for what he did, but rather for what he didn’t do. Tip of the cap to you, sir.
