With coronavirus working from home has become the norm for a lot of people. Those hours of wasting away your day trying to look busy in front of your boss are now gone. Instead, maybe your workplace has a way of seeing how long you haven’t moved your mouse or have set a certain number of cases that need to be done for the day. Workplaces have figured out ways to make sure you’re not just scrolling through Twitter or watching YouTube all day. Sitting in your underwear and getting food delivered to your house for 9 hours a day while working is great and all, but it can get very boring. Maybe you actually have people at your work that you don’t despise, and chatting around the water cooler was the highlight of your day. Let me tell you a not-so-secret that is discord.
You don’t have to have a $5,000 gaming PC or be a streamer that plays video games for 10 hours a day to enjoy discord. Shit discord now has an app that you can use directly on your phone that is pretty much a conference call with your boys. Instead of being all alone in your shitty apartment answering emails for 10 hours a day, you can feel like you’re hanging with the boys and working at the same time. This is what my friends and I do when I’m actually working and not sitting in this chair all day icing my knee.
I have one friend who is working from home and has been for over a year. I have another friend who works nights and is playing video games during the day. Then there’s me, who is all alone, either freezing or sweating my balls off in a mail truck. With the addition of some AirPods, I can be on discord all day with my friends instead of listening to 5 hours of podcasts. I can argue if Lou Williams is actually a good player with my friends and look like the crazy mailman who is just talking to himself. P.S. sweet Lou is good at basketball.
If you aren’t already using discord to enhance your working from home, you’re missing out. It seems like working from home is just going to be the norm for who knows how long. Maybe you won’t turn into a mad man who hates his job if you can talk to the boys.
