2023 NBA Playoffs - Phoenix Suns v Denver Nuggets

As reported by Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, star point guard Chris Paul was waived by the team today in a shocking move by the Suns’ front office. It remains unknown as to exactly why Phoenix chose to release CP3, but he will undoubtedly be one of the most coveted free agents this offseason.

I didn’t think Chris Paul would continue to be a major news headliner today after TMZ released a story about his daughter being bullied at school for his championship-less career, but I certainly thought wrong. The Suns are clearly looking to shake things up throughout the organization going into next season, hiring Frank Vogel as their new head coach and now releasing hall-of-fame point guard Chris Paul. With a brutal lack of depth after trading for Kevin Durant this season, Phoenix may be trying to clear up some cap space to build up their bench as they look to compete for championships in the years to come. Regardless, it always comes as a surprise when a star like Chris Paul is just flat-out released by a team. It doesn’t seem like CP3 is contemplating retirement either:

While NBA free agency is always exciting, Chris Paul’s release makes this offseason even better. With James Harden’s inevitable departure, is CP3 the missing piece for the 76ers to finally make a championship run with Joel Embiid? Or will LeBron work his magic once again and get Rob Pelinka to bring one of his best friends to Los Angeles? I would imagine that Chris Paul is only considering legitimate title contenders at this point in his career, but whatever team ends up signing him will definitely be planning on making a deep playoff push this upcoming season.
