As soon as my parents named me Grace, the sitcom that is my life began.
My name was the start of what I can only describe as, a series of unfortunate events. Just like everyone and their mother nowadays, my claim to fame is on TikTok. Ironically, I went with @_dis_grace_ful_ as my username. Like everyone else, I was hoping to have at least one video go viral. Yet, the one that did go viral was just a fluke. Unlike my other videos, this one was effortless and not as funny, but there are 708k people who seem to disagree with me. So, you must be wondering…what video was it? Here are two words that will simply give it all away: itchin’ and burnin’
Internet “fame”
I filmed this video on my lunch break at work because the song was cemented into my brain. After my shift, there were around a thousand views on the video. This was exciting but didn’t think much of it. When I woke up the next morning the TikTok had gone viral and my follower count went from the hundreds to the thousands. It truly is the videos you least expect to go viral that do. It’s been nearly a year and a half since the video blew up and I still have people taunting me leaving comments such as “itchin and burnin girl” and my favorite “stanky and fishy” but hey, it comes with the fame. Since then I have had several videos do just as well:
TikTok to Total Sorority Move
So yeah, I’m a “TikToker” which to me used to be something that I was embarrassed to say, but at this point who isn’t on TikTok. Quite frankly, if you aren’t on the app by now, you’re either 100 years old or you think you’re better than everyone your age. If it weren’t for TikTok, I wouldn’t have this position here at Total Sorority Move — a position I’m still not sure why, or how, I have — I’m excited to see where it takes me.
So who am I?
So who am I? That’s a loaded, yet important, question. In summary, I’m a 22-year-old comedian trying to find her niche at the moment. I would love to be a stand-up comedian but as you get to know me, I’m much better on paper than I am in real life. For example, when presenting in front of others everything flows perfectly when it’s in my head, but as soon as I open my mouth I get hit with — what I call — verbal dyslexia. So until I get that under control, no open mikes for this ginger.
“Move during a pandemic … it will be fun,” they said.
I’m originally from Boston, but I decided in the middle of a pandemic it would be a good idea to move to NYC with my best friend so that’s … going. It seemed like a great idea at first but when your only experience for work is in the food industry and all the restaurants are shutting down, you realize being a trash man wouldn’t be THAT bad.
There is one thing I need to get off my chest before we continue…
I may, or may not, have a drinking problem. It’s honestly not my fault. I’m Irish, so naturally, I come from a long history of denying I’m an alcoholic. Which is fun for now, but could become a problem down the road … or so I’ve been told.
Designated Ugly Fat Friend
I’m usually the designated DUFF of the group — which used to be a bummer in middle school and high school — but as I grew up, it became a blessing in disguise. Being the DUFF not only builds character, but it pushes you to be the funny friend because let’s face it — if you don’t laugh you’ll cry.
College Student?
When I’m not oversharing on the internet, I’m a Communication and Journalism double major at UMass Amherst, but like … am I? That’s the thing with online learning, you quite literally have no idea what is actually going on. So basically, my life’s a mess but who in their early twenties actually has everything figured out?
Wrap it up Grace
I’m currently trying to find my comedic niche, so in the meantime, I plan to write about things I know girls my age want to hear about, from pop culture to Sunday scaries. I hope to be like the friend you hang out with when you need a break from sorority life. Hey, I may not be in a sorority, but I am in college and I, my friend, know how to truly have a good time. I have a feeling this might be the start to a beautiful — chaotic — friendship.
