Kelly Kay, the girlfriend of the late University of Oregon star football player Spencer Webb, has given birth to their first child, a baby boy named Spider Webb. Spider was the nickname that Spencer went by at Oregon. Spencer Webb died unexpectedly at the age of 22 in July 2022. One month later, Kay announced her pregnancy, saying they had “created an angel before heaven gained one.” In an Instagram post, Kay expressed her love for her late boyfriend and their child, saying Spider Webb will be a legend just like his dad. Photos from the birth announcement show tributes to Spencer Webb, including his football jersey and a University of Oregon blanket covering the newborn. Kelly Kay is a model and social media influencer who shared the news of Spider Webb’s birth on her Instagram page.

Besides being the feel-good story of the month, we can’t just gloss over the fact that he is named Spider. Spider Webb is such a dope name. Not to put too much pressure on this 1-week old baby, but he’s going to be a crazy good athlete and I expect him to be a star. Besides being named Spider, his late father was a star tight end for Oregon and actually grew up in my hometown of Sacramento. He played against my high school when I was a sophomore and I remember watching from the sidelines as he big-bodied everyone. Besides Spencer’s death being a tragic story, this is the best way it could have ended. Spider will commemorate and honor his father with every breath he takes. When he gets drafted eventually, I hope ESPN will do a cool segment about his dad and his nickname. We’re all rooting for you Spider. RIP Spencer Webb.
