I want to start out by making the main point of this article very clear. Alvin Kamara just became the steal of the draft in your fantasy football league. I’ll get back to this, though.
The NFL has suspended Saints’ star running back Alvin Kamara for the first three games of the season. The suspension is over an incident that happened in Las Vegas at the 2022 Pro Bowl. Kamara was arrested after a man accused him of battery in a night club. Kamara recently had the charges dropped from a felony to a misdemeanor. More importantly for the Saints, he and Roger Goodell spoke directly about his punishment. Whatever he said worked, as he avoided a larger punishment that was expected around the league.
Kamara’s reaction at his press conference shows how worried he was about missing a larger portion of time. In recent years, the Saints have struggled through Michael Thomas’ injuries, Alvin Kamara’s career limbo, and Drew Brees retirement. It should be good for the twenty-eight year old to quickly put this behind him, and go right back to being a bright spot in the Saints’ offense again.
As previously mentioned, the upside of this suspension is the benefit this will provide fantasy football lineups everywhere. Kamara was already being way under drafted. Before the suspension, he was the twenty-fifth running back off the board on average. Now, that number will likely fall even more. More and more people will talk themselves out of waiting three weeks for him to play. Even if he isn’t scoring at the rate he used to when Drew Brees was checking down to him, grabbing him in the ninth will still be a cheat code for your lineup.
Derek Carr is now the Saints’ starting quarterback. Everyone in the franchise is expecting him to revamp their offense this season. Even if he won’t offer this offense a super star quarterback, he certainly won’t get in the way of anyone else producing on either.
Alvin Kamara already won today. Make sure you win too, and steal him from your idiot friends.
