BIG3 Basketball and Monster Energy have teamed up once again for a celebrity charity game and the rosters may outshine the NBA celebrity game.
Former rapper and founder of BIG3 Basketball Ice Cube announced today that his basketball league will partner with Monster Energy Drinks for a second straight year to host the Monster Energy BIG3 Celebrity Game.
Taking place on August 19 at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, the celebrity game will feature huge names in sports and entertainment in an effort to raise money for underprivileged youths.
After last summer’s first ever celebrity game in Atlanta drew over 9,000 fans in attendance, BIG3 and Monster decided to run it back once more. This time even bigger.
“We are excited to partner again with Monster Energy on BIG3’s celebrity basketball game, which was a big highlight last season,” Ice Cube said in the announcement. “In 2022, Monster Energy pooled together some of the most talented celebrities to partake in this high-energy game, and this year is no different. We are enthusiastic about this collaboration as it brings funds and attention to significant causes as well as joy on the court.”
Though BIG3 should announce more celebs in the coming days, here’s an initial list of those participating.
Roster
- Vernon Davis
- Terrell Owens
- A Boogie Wit da Hoodie
- Wallo & Gillie from Million Dollaz Worth of Game Podcast
- NLE Choppa
- Rashad Jennings
- Rico Nasty
- Symba
- Ashley Darby
Clearly, this will be a star-studded event.
The celebrity game will feature the standard BIG3 rules which includes half-court gameplay and the infamous 4-point shot. While which players will be on each team has yet to be decided, Ice Cube will coach Team Webull against Clyde Drexler’s Team PrizePicks.
Monster has pledged to donate at least $25,000 to Ice Cube’s Young 3 charity which works with children in need. The event itself will also raise money to go towards Young 3 as well as other beneficiaries helping underprivileged children.
Considering the NBA Celebrity Game has lost some luster in recent years, this truly seems like exciting stuff. From T.O to A Boogie to even a Real Housewife, this lineup both dazzles and surprises. I don’t know about you guys, but I’ll be tuning in to watch Vernon Davis and Terrell Owens battle it out for MVP.
