It looks like one of the best players in the Premier League may have his eyes set on the real type of football.
Tottenham Hotspurs’ striker Harry Kane appeared on Good Morning America this morning to sit down with former Giants’ defensive end turned television host Michael Strahan, and the conversation ended up derailing from English football to American football. During the interview, Strahan asked Kane about his desire to play in the NFL after he retires, to which Kane replied, “yeah, it’s something I’d love to do. The NFL I have been following for about 10 years now, and I love it, so I’d love to give it a go.”
Even if Kane’s dream becomes reality it wouldn’t come any time soon. The English team captain is in the prime of his career at a mere 29 years old. Even at such a young age Kane is already regarded as one of the best in the world and possibly history of the game as he recently passed Wayne Rooney for the most goals ever playing on the English National Team. It doesn’t appear as if Kane has any plans on stopping any time soon as he just scored 30 goals this past season, the second highest in the league.
As for skills, I don’t think there is a doubt in anyone’s mind that Kane could kick in the NFL. During his interview with Strahan, Kane humbly mentioned that it would take a lot of hard work and dedication to become an NFL kicker, and to be completely honest I don’t think that’s true. I truly believe that if you gave Kane a month, maybe even two weeks, he would be ready for the gridiron. Yes, they use different balls with different goal dimensions and there will be a line of 300lb dudes running at him blah blah blah, but I still think that in terms of kick power and accuracy Kane would absolutely demolish every kicker other than Justin Tucker. I have friends that played soccer in high school that can hit field goals from 35 yards no problem. This is one of the greatest soccer players in the history of the game. I’m sure with a little bit of practice and coaching he will be knocking them through the uprights with ease.
