Geoffrey Moore, the son of the late James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore, has stated that the iconic role of 007 should only be played by men, saying that it wouldn’t be the same if a woman took on the role. His comments come after the most recent Bond film, “No Time To Die,” saw Lashana Lynch’s character inherit the 007 title from Daniel Craig’s Bond. Moore suggested that a female protagonist could lead a spinoff, but the character of Bond must remain male as created by Ian Fleming. He also endorsed the idea of successful female-led spy franchises, such as “Atomic Blonde.” Moore’s views have been echoed by other Bond actors, including Daniel Craig and the franchise’s producer, Barbara Broccoli. Broccoli believes that while James Bond can be of any race, he should remain a male character, and new, strong female characters should be created instead of gender-swapping existing male roles.
As the boss of the James Bond fan club here in TFM, I gotta put my foot down on this one. Let me make it crystal clear, this is hands down the worst idea of all time. James Bond is the ultimate dude – a British spy with dope cars, sick watches, and the hottest women all over the globe. If they try to switch it up with a female in the lead role, I’m personally boycotting and I hope you guys follow my steps. Look, I’m all about equality, but some things just shouldn’t be messed with. I’d be down to watch a spy flick led by a badass lady who takes out the mob or something but don’t try to mess with the OG James Bond formula. The problem is that Hollywood’s got no creativity anymore, bro. They just keep making the same damn movies over and over. I mean, “Cocaine Bear” was the first original movie I’ve seen in ages.
