Peyton Manning announced the second season of the Netflix docuseries Quarterback. Peyton Manning successfully launched his production company with this series. Instead of going to the other idea for a show based on his career, Commercial Acting, he is going back to the series of demonstrating the lifestyle of a quarterback throughout the season.
I’m in the middle of the first season. So far it has been fun laughing at Kirk Cousins, hating Patrick Mahomes wife, and getting something to eat when they show Marcus Mariota. I am enjoying it so far, but they can definitely improve with their cast for next seasons. Here are some good trios of quarterbacks that would give a nuanced, and interesting look into being a pro signal caller.
Jalen Hurts, Aaron Rodgers, Bryce Young
This is kind of my dream trio. As an Eagles fan, Hurts was always going to be the first person written on this list. He’s also immensely talented, and as humble as they come. Watching him attempt to prove last season was no fluke would definitely make for some great tv. Aaron Rodgers is obvious. Love him or hate him, he’s the most interesting quarterback in the NFL. Hard Knocks knows this, and so do all of us too. To round out this trio, why not add the number one pick in the draft. They could center the second season around dealing with expectations, without three entirely different personalities and situations.
Daniel Jones, Ryan Tannehill, Josh Allen
Daniel Jones would having a camera in his face year round? Yes please. That guy is constantly screwing something up, but he quietly brought the Giants to a playoff win last year, and was subsequently paid like it. He is in one of the weirdest situations in the NFL, and fans entirely disagree on his level of talent. Ryan Tannehill is in the process of losing his job. This isn’t the first time it’s happened to him either. It would probably be great tv. Josh Allen is an obvious one. Each group needs at least one star in it. Allen over Burrow. Mahomes cockiness is kind of annoying me through three episodes. Joe Sheisty would be unbearable.
Brock Purdy, Sam Darnold, Trey Lance
Season two can just be called, “Quarterback: With the 49ers”. Any one of these guys might start. Lance is the least likely, but he has also gotten the most attention thus far. All of these guys are likely going to play at some point this season. Throw in the fact that they have wildly different career paths. A veteran who came in as competition, a Mr. Irrelevant, and a top five pick who’s had few chances. Sorry Stelly, your team can’t handle the Eagles. They’d at least make good tv, though.
