What’s worse than getting swept in baseball? Getting swept under the tarp during a rain delay.
Coming off a four game sweep against the Milwaukee Brewers last week, the Cincinnati Reds were looking to get back on track last night with a home win over the San Francisco Giants. Things were looking okay going into the 8th inning with the score tied at 2 a piece. However, rain soon began pouring down causing a delay.
During the delay, the Reds’ on-field woes continued, but this time it had nothing to do with the players.
While the grounds crew attempted to cover the field, swirling wind gusts seemed to give them a bunch of trouble. In particular, one crew member tripped while extending the tarp, leaving him to be buried alive. Honestly, you kinda just need to see it to believe it.
Blunder Of The Year?
This is by far one of the funniest bloopers from a sports team crew member. While anyone tripping over themselves is always a funny sight, nothing will ever compare to this guy trying to crawl out from under the tarp.
Talk about leaving a man behind, this guy was trapped for several minutes underneath the tarp. While his crewmates eventually tried to help lead him to the light, no one seems to bat an eye when he originally falls. Instead, they continue to run the length of the diamond, fully engulfing him underneath the canvas.
Luckily for the crew member, he escaped unharmed. However, according to the NBC Sports announcer, when he arose from the depths of the tarp the fallen crewman was “a little dirty.” I’ll take dirty over suffocated any day of the week.
The game would go on to be postponed due to the rain, which is seemingly a silver lining for the Reds as there were two men in scoring position for the Giants when the game first became delayed. Maybe the break in gameplay will tarnish their momentum.
