Yes, the grip that HBO has on all of our social media accounts every Sunday is pretty annoying. Every college girl thinks her high school was exactly like Euphoria. And The Last of Us was so popular I think my sister and my dad both have a crush on Pedro Pascal. But none of their recent programming has come even close to touching their current Sunday night lineup. The hour and a half window of Succession and Barry back-to-back is the biggest game changer to my viewing habits since I discovered the accessibility of porn on the internet.
If you haven’t seen either of these shows, you probably have more sex than I do. But fuck are both of them worth a binge just to see what you’re missing. Succession has gotten better with every season, and is probably the best show to air since Breaking Bad ended. They recently had an episode that was hilarious, but also had me wiping more tears than any funeral I’ve ever attended. If you watch the show, you know exactly which one I’m talking about. Then they follow it up with another banger about whether or not a word was crossed out or underlined. It’s unlike anything else on tv.
For the next six weeks, there isn’t even enough time to take a dump after Succession ends before Bill Hader jumps on our screen as Barry Berkman, the only man real or fake who’s ever competed with Tom Cruise for the title of Hollywood’s most psychotic actor. It’s crazy to look at Hader play Barry and think he got his start playing Stefan on SNL. He’s nothing short of incredible on it, and he might not even be the best part of the show. NoHo Hank as the friendly cartel boss is quite possibly the funniest tv character of all time.
Seriously is he not the most lovable man of all time. This man is responsible for countless deaths on the show, but yet you’d let your daughter date him because he’s just such a nice guy. The show has its dark moments. Mainly it’s as a result of how frequently the main character is murdering people, but it still maintains some of the lightheartedness that made everyone fall in love with a fictional serial killer in the first season.
Seriously, I can’t get enough of either of these shows. The fact that HBO has two shows this addicting and they air back-to-back should be illegal. Maybe other people do more with their lives than make dick jokes on the internet and watch television, but I’m not one of those people. The only thing that could make this better is some Nickelodeon style crossover event where NoHo Hank and Greg the Egg hang out together. These two guys are both so effortlessly hilarious that I think it would be entertaining to watch them go to the farmers market together. If that doesn’t demonstrate the hold HBO currently has on me then all I can say is…
Fuck off.
