Season 20 of The Bachelorette starts tonight meaning 25 guys who have no interest in finding a wife and every interest in becoming a social media influencer will vie for the fleeting favor of one Charity Lawson, a child and family therapist from Georgia pictured below.
Salary.com says that child therapists in Georgia make between $46K and $53K. That may be an honest wage for middle-America light-beer drinking types, but Charity must have a taste for champagne and high-society as shown by her willingness to gamify the distribution of her affection on national television.
She will need a man who brings home the bacon. So here is a look at some of the male contestants that will be introduced tonight with a review of their earnings potential based on their job title.
John Henry, Underwater Welder
According to John’s bio on ABC he is ready for a love deeper than the ocean. Makes sense he would come to the most shallow show on TV to find it.
He is from Virginia and ZipRecruiter says Underwater Welders there make a scant $21 per hour which is barely above minimum wage in many parts of the country.
Unless he gets rich quick after discovering some long lost treasure in the depths with John B from Outer Banks, no way he makes enough to give Charity the aristocratic life she craves.
James, Attorney
Marrying a Lawyer used to be a punched-ticket to the upper crust. But that isn’t always the case anymore as law schools across the country pump out more activists and school-addicts than money-hungry juris doctors.
For James it all boils down to what kind of attorney he is. Public defenders in Chicago, where he is from, make $50K to $77K according to Salary.com. But corporate lawyers make $110K to $250K in the same market per Indeed.
For the sake of Charity, hopefully James is uncharitable with his time and has chosen a legal speciality where he can maximize his hourly rate.
Chris, World Record Jumper
Chris holds the Guinness World Record for the highest standing box jump. He is a former small town football star, apparently, who lets his passions lead him.
A box jumper and former high school football star? Not exactly the sort of background you’d associate with affluence. Charity should request his last year tax return before granting him a rose.
Josh, Harvard Grad Student
ABC says Josh gave up a lucrative career on Wall Street to study affordable housing and nonprofits at Harvard. Normally I would say this should be a massive red flag, someone who gives up the swankiest of careers to pursue a non-profit.
But nowadays non-profit executives get crazy rich with big salaries and access to elite connections. And affordable housing is a sector replete with loose government money.
Pretty good chance Josh leverages his utilitarian streak into a massive tax-payer subsidized income in the future.
John, Data Scientist
Now here is a guy that has it figured out. US News World & World Report ranked Data Scientist as one of the top jobs in the US right now. John is from New York City and Data Scientists there make $137K on average according to Built in NYC.
From an income and security standpoint, John would be a fine bet for Charity.
Otherwise for Charity’s choosing will be a Software Salesman, Fireman, Realtor, Physician, Integrative Medicine Specialist, Tech Operations Director, Tennis Pro, Recruiter and more.
