In the latest round of Roger Goodell laying the “hammer” down, the league has suspended three players for at least a full season and another player for six games. Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, defensive end Rashod Berry, and free agent defensive tackle Demetrius Taylor have all been indefinitely suspended and must sit out at least the entire 2023 season before seeking reinstatement. They were found to have placed wagers on NFL games last season. Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere has also been suspended for six games for placing bets on non-NFL games at the team’s facility.
It was reported by ESPN that Rodgers had used an online sportsbook account to place over 100 bets, including one involving the Colts. In response to the investigation, Rodgers took to Twitter to express his remorse, acknowledging his mistakes and vowing to rectify the situation.
Additionally, wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who had an impressive season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, was suspended for the entire year for gambling on NFL games. He was subsequently traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars and officially reinstated by the league in March.
While the NFL hates gambling, here at Total Frat Move we encourage it. It is also really stupid how NFL players can’t bet, while the league is in bed with every single gambling website and casino in the world. The moment there was a solid rumor that the Raiders were moving to Vegas, all hell was going to break loose. There is no way that you can have an NFL team and get mad at players for gambling.
While I understand betting on your own team to lose is frowned upon, is it bad to take your own team to win a game? I feel like everyone would put money on that because you’re betting for yourself.
Same with weed and other drugs, I have a feeling in 10-15 years, it is going to be legal to gamble if you’re an NFL player.
