Today is national suicide prevention day. I’m not here to tell everyone to go out and post things on their stories, I’m not telling everyone to go donate to charities, and I’m not going to say that everyone needs to spend all day trying to stop the mass numbers of suicides that happen every single year. If you do all that, I’m glad, but it’s also important to remember that you can help in smaller ways.

Every person has struggles. Every single one of us. Struggling is okay, but it’s important to remember that when you are struggling, no matter how much it may be, you have people around you that love you and care about you. Always remember that.

Tonight is Friday, and if you’re anything like me, you’re pregaming right now and getting ready for a great night. That’s awesome. Enjoy that time. But there’s also a responsibility we all have, and that responsibility is to check in on our friends, siblings, fraternity brothers, sorority sisters, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins — anyone. If you think that someone might be struggling, check in on them. You have no idea how much of a difference it can make in one moment to simply ask someone if they’re okay.

So tonight, when you’re sitting around with your friends at the post game, and you look at the person who has seemed off the past few weeks, see how they’re doing. Just check in.

If you’re someone that is struggling, it’s okay. There are tons of resources out there to help if you don’t feel comfortable going to your close friends and family, but trust me, it only gets easier to deal with these struggles when you begin to be open about them. If you’re not struggling, find someone that is and help them.

We’re all human beings, and at the end of the day, no one wants to see anyone leave too soon, especially by their own hand. We’re all loved by someone. Never forget that.

Enjoy your weekend everybody.
