New Music Monday

young african american male rapper, songwriter recording song in studio

It has been some time since my last New Music Monday but we’re coming back and better than ever. In preparation for the upcoming summer, everyone from David Guetta to Drake has been releasing new music. While you may think this makes my job easier, it just means I have to comb through a lot more bullshit music to find the real gems. This week I take a look at one of the biggest new EDM mixes as well as what new rap songs you should be looking out for.

Baby Don’t Hurt Me- David Guetta (Feat. Anne Marie, Coi Leray)

Once again David Guetta is sticking with his bread and butter and absolutely killing it. It seems like the guy has an oldies remix coming every week. This remix of ‘What Is Love’ by Haddaway might just end up being the song of the summer. Women will be singing this song at the top of their lungs simply because they already know every word, and I can guarantee you that this song will get the lads fired up on the dance floor. If this isn’t in your Spotify playlist already I bet you it will be by the end of the summer. Give it a listen and you won’t regret it.

Search and Rescue- Drake

I couldn’t get through this new music Monday without mentioning Drake’s new single, Search and Rescue. This might not be the most hype Drake song ever, but the beat and rhymes are top-tier. About 1 minute into the song, Kim Kardashian tries to drop some knowledge on us in an ad-lib where she talks about she “didn’t come this far just to come this far.” I guess that’s what you have to tell yourself when Ray J’s Glizzy is the only thing standing between you and becoming famous. Give it a listen and decide for yourself, but If you can get passed the bull shit this is a great song that should be a part of any rap playlist.

Not So Bad (Leans Gone Cold)- Rae Sremmurd

Rae Sremmurd remade an absolute classic and through some of their new-age rap style on it. The beat definitely gives me New York City drill vibes, but the vocals have a Lofi style that balances the song out and chills it out. Both of the freestyles go incredibly hard, and I think this song could fit into any of your rap playlists. Whether its hardcore drill rap or chill vibes there will be a spot for this song on any rap playlist.
